Finally, the robots have arrived, all hail our new ROBOT OVERLORDS… Robot Friends!

This episode of Drown Pirate Radio (titled Robot Friends Model # 001) was done in conjunction with Z’s podcast, Radio Free Hipster. We dig each others podcasts so much that we decided to each release a robot themed podcast on the same day.

I am sorry to everyone for the delay, I spent ALL DAY working with computer problems… I guess that just drives the point though; Man VS. Machine?

Machine wins.

It was like that scene in Matrix 2, in the boiler room, when Neo comes to the realization that there are some machines that keep him alive, while others are trying to kill him… List of songs after the bump.

Robot Friends Model # 001 starts off with the soulful crooning nasal wit of MC Chris, as he waxes ecstatic on the life of being a pet robot owner.

Then comes DJ Swamp with one simple command, Worship The Robots. Perhaps Chris should have followed this advice.

Yes that is the Jackson 5. Dancing Machine… It’s a machine, so it counts… Besides I really love that break and wanted to Drown Radio-ify it a bit.

During the meltdown I layered bits of OK Robot by Bruce Haack over some of my own various beats. The horn samples are from the next song.

Connie Francis’s song “Robot Man” was a new find, but I knew I had to work it into the podcast.

Then we hear Bent Bolt and the Nut’s sappy tune “I’m a Mechanical Man”. If anyone knows of a Robot Girl that can fit a Mechanical Man, please let him know.

The next track before the break is a brand new track I did with Schaffer The Dark Lord. The lyrics and all that are his, the beats are mine, and the cuts from MC Plus+’s DJ, Lord Illingworth. This is the first track I’ve done with STD, hopefully more are on the way, but for now this is the only one and it’s only available on Drown Pirate Radio. Note the cloning reference at the end of the song… fans of Schaffer may get the extra joke, but if you don’t get it, check out his myspace page.

Pete Miser’s Scent of a Robot is a fantastic way to kick the show back into gear. The video for this song is a must see!

Then we bring back Haack, this time doing his own song instead of flowing over mine. Not that people who rhyme over my beats are hacks…

Kraftwerk. Of course I have to play a Krafwerk song on a robot podcast.

Fans of da ‘werk should check out the 8 Bit Operators Kraftwerk Cover Album. Or better yet, get the 12” single when it comes out (that’s the only way to get 8 Bit Weapon’s track).

In comes Timmy Taylor and Brainiac for a few bars. Brainiac are one of my all time favorite bands, and really I just wanted to find an excuse to play a song of theirs on one of my podcasts… However, I can’t say it worked out fantastically, hopefully people can put up with it for a minute.

Selby Tigers, a defunct Minneapolis rock band, play “These Are Not The Droids”.

Then comes another one of my favorite bands, 8bit bEtty. 8bb just moved to New York and is hoping to have a super productive year, starting with remixing one of my songs “Twistin’ Cherry Stems”. I’m hoping it will be done in time for my upcoming sex podcast. You can help motivate bEtty to finish the track here.

Another Minneapolis band, Work Of Saws, plays “Robot Killed a Guard”. So beautiful. So freakin’ beautiful.

And it fits nicely side by side with Cook Records “Not Programmed to Love”. I found this via Otis Fodder’s excellent Music Project. Here is his current 365 Day Project.

And finally is Voltare with “Sexy Data Tango”. I know nothing about the man (Voltare) or any of his other works, but damn if this song isn’t just perfect as a segway from this show to the next.
